Collaborative PCC effort
To any / all who are interested: http://vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/20/21248 As you know missions are my thing. I am trying to get a collaborative mission project going on the PCC boards. I'm not sure exactly how this will go but I hope to have something great for the devs by the end of summer. If anyone has joined the PCC and yet to get a mission accepted this is the perfect opportunity. I'm looking for all calibers of talent, not just programming but also: Dialogue writers Storyline ideas Playtesters Of course if you want to help out by crafting missions using the editor all the better. I hope for this to be a reflexive effort meaning we'll help each other out as we go. If it sounds interesting go ahead and jump in that thread, I want to gauge the idea this week. Just thought I would let you my guild and others that graze these boards know. note: you must be a member of the PCC and logged in to access the linked thread |

Posted in the forum for this earlier. As you said to me in-game, hopefully we should have something nice for the devs by the end of summer :) _________________ Who else thinks that this music suits a pirate chase? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcQOM5MurYc |

I would be more than willing to help you test it and throw some ideas out there Phaser :). Unfortunatley, my talent with the mission editor is probably in the negatives heh.. but I can suggest ideas and help test. Im not bad at writing either. -Niut |

Might be able to spend some time working with dialogue and story writing, but I would prefer to avoid using the editor myself as -- quite frankly -- it lacks a lot of features that would allow the missions I have had written down since ages ago. |

That was a *very* polite description of the mission editor, Sembei. |

Re: Collaborative PCC effort
Ironically enough, I had access to the mission editor before the PCC was formed -- the first incarnation of it that I had access to actually did allow some of the stuff I wanted to do (Custom-tailored NPC layouts, etc.). I'm not saying the editor sucks, mind... just that it's clunky, not very intuitive and lacks the ability to do some of the stuff that I need in order to make some of the missions I want to make and that I'm not particularly fond of spending hours using it and trying to debug missions with it. |

Re: Collaborative PCC effort
The editor does look unwieldy at first, however there is a bit of a learning curve to it. I personally find the editor easy to use if one avoids a few pitfalls. I also have some background programming old school languages like Fortran and Turbo Pascal, which make the editor look quite user friendly. Debugging can get very tedious (try single stepping through 150 lines of code), fortunately after a certain point one can begin to spot bugs before play testing. By the end of summer you'll be at this point if you follow me. I think most people's impression of the editor is the "tip of the iceberg". I want to take a systematic approach to it, explore some new possibilities, and cooperatively create something fun in the process. |
