Out again indefinately. PC issues
Having some pc issues. Can't even run VO. I'm not sure if my video card died on me or what. I'm on the onboard card atm and can't even run vo (which I was able to do before I upgraded). Also, work is going to be nuts for a while. Looking at 7 day weeks at least for the next 2 so I'm not really sure when I'll be able to resolve this. I'm darned tempted to go back to windows :( And the rest of you scum dogs stay the bloody ell away from my Sembei while I'm out! >:( _________________ Yah - har - fiddle-dee-dee, being a pirate is all right with me! I've been there... not too long ago. The fix involved a propane torch. No, really. A propane torch. I'm happy to dig through X logfiles for you if it means having a real pirate to shoot at instead of peypey. |

Thx. Something is really screwy with my graphics. I can load Urban Terror, but not VO, which weird. I'm stuck at 640*480 graphics :( At this point, I'm thinking I'm going move everything I want to a flash drive and do a clean install. It's a tough job, but I know you love to do it ;) :P Sad but true.. :cry: BTW, can anyone recommend a good Linux distro for gaming (primarily VO) I figure if I'm going to wipe everything and start clean, I may as well follow through on my original intention and try different distro's. Ubuntu 8.10 is somewhat improved over 8.04 and has the advantage (for gaming) of being the most popular desktop distribution. As a result, you're more likely to find people who have had exactly the same issue you have with... just about anything. |

I have had success playing VO on Ubuntu, 7.10 through 8.10. I can't recommend it if you have a Dell Dimension E521, because that computer is a piece of crap and doesn't do things the way normal things do. I don't have sound on my work computer (the Ubuntu one) at all due to this, but that's neither here nor there. I have also had some success getting it working on Gentoo, though my computers with Gentoo on them generally don't have the processing power to play VO (5+ years old low-end laptop, for example). It takes awhile to set everything up, but once you do you have a much deeper understanding about what all is going on under the hood of your Linux box, because you put it all there. I would however make the suggestion that you look online for other people's experiences putting Gentoo on your hardware; I've been burned several times by things not being supported the way I had hoped. There are other distros you could try (my data acquisition machine runs Mandriva, though it has to run 2006.0, and so is kind of crappy, and also not for gaming), but in general I would suggest first upgrading to 8.10. In terms of supporting everything, Ubuntu is probably the easiest choice you're going to get. What's your architecture and video card, by the way? I've experienced a number of different problems with a number of different setups, so perhaps I could be of help. |

Yet another boring tour of grey...
Tried to find the incentive to terrorise space and..... just didn't have it. Not a single bloody trader in two hours. :cry: Loads of PvP against NP and Gerty and that was kinda fun. But if I wanted to be a PvP'er I could have joined Itan, ONE or even the snakes. :( Sorry guys.. :cry: Well, I honestly can't say I blame you. I've touched on this before, and even for us pirates with good standing, the targets just aren't coming. About the only things left to shoot are voys- if you know the good wh's, and sometimes not even then. I think I'll go with 8.1 then. Seems to be the standard. Nah. We just need more attention. Thats all :P * Retractile is high maintenance DL 8.10 and hoping.... Probably won't attempt the install till tomorrow evening at this point. :( Seriously, your probably right. I think my month off was the right choice though, since my outlook has become more positive since I've returned. I believe its you guy's and gals that make the difference. Gentoo is great but takes a hell of time to setup. My linux is kinda broken for some part, but i still able to play vo and as i got not enuf time to fixed what's broken. Had a busy day today, felt a warm welcome from strat in O6 as soon as i logged in. Ya know that kind "hey buddy how was yer day today, good to see ya in vo!" Then i tried to improve some standing od some sort a lil' but got quickly bored got back to odia and hit a 2M voy :w00t: than finished the day with pvp in b8 with nitci, isasthis and atice It's been two day i am really outnumlbered by vpr online I am afraid they will got tired to pwn me so easily, and might leave the game, having nothing else to shoot to perform their duty. Ok. I'm back. Turned out to be my video card died and caused my xorg to crap out. Ended up upgrading to 8.10 anyway, and it seems to handle better. I'll be needing a new video card eventually, as everything seems jerky and I have 1/2 the frame rate that I used to get. Had a few good fights with Nitci and Ishihathis that helped confirm VO and my old settings were working properly. Afterwards, I hooked up with Sembei and we had a great time. Of course, being the dumbass that I am, I went and managed to get my hand smashed when the hatch fell on it in Nyrius. Sembei was most sympathetic and nurturing >:) and once the swelling goes down, I may be tempted to have another 'accident' if you know what I mean! ;) :blush: ;) _________________ Yah - har - fiddle-dee-dee, being a pirate is all right with me!
