I thought to myself
At 4:45am today, I'm happily minding my own business as I make the drive in to work. Next thing I know I've got flashing lights behind me, so I pull in to a convienience store parking area (Wawa if you must know). I pull out my registration, insurance and drivers license. And get held up for twenty minutes while he processs the information.

I ended up with a $108.00(usd) fine and twenty minutes interupted out of my morning routine. For what you might ask? Was it for any of the many times I've sped, or occasionally run a red light (purely accidental), or run grandpa off the road (not accidental) or even that time I kicked a puppy?

No. Because at 4 bloody 45 am on my way to work when there wasn't any other traffic on the road, I forgot to use my blinker.

And I thought to myself, 'What a freaking VPR' >:(

Re: I thought to myself
Well, Ret... technically it doesn't matter if there's nobody else on the road; if you break a law a police officer can pull you over and write you up for it regardless of whether it had any effect on anyone else.

It's just one of the dangers of driving late at night when nobody else is on the roads... when you drive during the day there's so many more people on the road that one or two drivers forgetting their turn signals tend not to be the focus of the officers on duty. ;)

That said, it sucks you had to pay that much of a fine -- I didn't realize that the fines were that high for just forgetting your signals, maybe it's just the state where you live -- but perhaps you'll remember next time!

LOL Too funny!

I spent some time trying to figure out which VPR would have given me that ticket. Everyone stood out, so I tried to figure out which VPR wouldn't have ticketed me. I finally concluded that your all VPR's so I'd have been hit no matter which of you it was.

And yes, Sembei, I deserved the ticket. I actually deserve much much worse for what I've gotten away with. :P So, I'm not complainin. Just thought I'd share a funny.

You may see a drop in my activity here as work is finally picking up :w00t: Yays for me!

LOL Rec thats hilarious.
actually on may long weekend up here in canada I was driving about an hour and a half from where I live to Koockanousa lake (bad spelling, who names a lake that anyways?) But I was about half-way to where i was going at around 11:00AM, and guess wut, a police officer pulled me over for going 106KPH, when the speed limit was 100KPH. I almost fell outta the truck cuz the fine was 225$ for 6 KPH over the speedlimit. I dont think that guy had his donuts in the morning LOL

Re: I thought to myself
In the state where I live (might be universal across the US, but I doubt it), speeding tickets are a flat fine for the first 10MPH over the speed limit (so, say, on a highway with a limit of 55MPH, the fine for traveling at 56-65MPH is the same), plus $2 for each 1MPH above that.

I think the flat fine is something like $100 (if it's not, whatever, it's just an example), so if you were traveling 72MPH in a 55MPH zone and were given a ticket it'd be worth $114.

In the four years since I got my license, I have never been pulled over and never gotten in an accident. Woot! ^.^

Nice, yah unfortunatley ive been in 2 car accidents, both involving deer. In one case my car flipped over a bank and rolled 3 times down about a 100 foot hill, luckily noone was badly injured. And in another case I swerved for the deer, hit a concrete barrier and somehow my hand came up and punched out my tooth and broke 2 of my fingers... But noone was badly hurt in that one either.. Just lukcy i guess. Watch out for deer!

Um, Ret, ever stop to think that PD is the VPR of RL? A good cop is equal to a good Viper. Not to mention I intend on becoming a cop after I'm done with the Navy. I'm getting good experience from VO in handling people that don't like it when I do my job :P

Phaser, Niut is up in Canada, he's a Canadian miner.

Whut? Oh, I love it when you do your job. Someone needs to be there to help those poor suffering traders...

I don't consider Vipers to be "cops". Cops uphold laws. There are no universal laws in VO. Vipers protect traders and hunt pirates. It's a role, just like pirates, traders, and nationalists. I would say that station guards and the strike force may be more equivalent to cops.

Wow, Nolan... planning on becoming a meteorologist? In this job, make that forecast every day and you'll get a 100% accuracy rate!

If I accept this to be true, then my declarations of "I shot the Sherriff" become void of substance and meaning. Perhaps I should start declaring "I just got me a new pair of Snake Skin Boots". A bit longish. How about "Another snake defanged!"? Or just "Defanged"? I like it.

Can't wait to hunt you guy's in game.

Re: I thought to myself
If you want to get really technical, Lt, we're a bunch of organized, well armed vigilantes. However, the use of the term "cop" is much more widespread.

Re: I thought to myself
The term "Viper" is widespread within VO. There's no point in trying to define us in terms other than what we set for ourselves. In my opinion, the words "Cop" and "Vigilante" both have meanings and associations that are inaccurate when used to describe who we are and what we do. People will always label us inaccurately as they see fit, but there's no reason that we need to do it to ourselves. Let's leave that to Retractile and his buddies. Dirty rats.

Well said Strat. I would like to argue though that from my perspective what you do in game is rather 'cop' like. I expect TGFT or PA might see you differently than I do. Also, a trader/miner/traveler who has benefited from your escorts would certainly not see you as a 'cop' or 'vigilante'. However, from my limited view, which generally consists of your neuts and flares- often interrupting my business transactions, I must insist that you are rather 'cop' like.

So :P
