New Client Opinions
Has anyone else used the new client in the past weeks? What are your experiences, hopes and what do you like? What do you not like? I can not get used to the new client. I think it is a step backwards in every way. It is a clumsy complicated interface. Everything takes more steps and more paying attention and is far less intuitive. Plus it is by far uglier than the current one. I hope this is just cosmetics. I can not really see why there was a need for doing a new client at this point. Still hoping for good things to come. As of now I cant stand playing with the new client. Let me hear what you think. Curious to know If I stand alone with my opinion. _________________ M. As I understand it, the new client was made so that: 1. Players can change the interface design if they don't like it. 2. The devs can add new features to it without having to rewrite the whole thing (again) 3. We can have more options for scripting/extending the client. I'd expect that it is still buggy and not very user-friendly, but things will get better as it gets closer to the real release. The UI is a bit clumsy, but after a while of using it, I'm sure I'll get used to it. I thought the original UI was clumsy at first. Beta client 6 is better by leaps and bounds than the other beta clients. The ship pressets are very useful, the Universe Inventory is a 'God-send' and best of all, the color range for ships is great. Especially in the darker colors with new Greens, Blues, and of course Black. These colors really make some of the texture details stand out. |

As in I can make my own "skin"? I will love to do that. But also as in rearrange the entire interface? I think there are way too many tabs in a confusing way. I would have tried more of a spaceship or bord computer approach as metaphor. But then again the 4 devs have their hands full with the game per se. I am seeing they do not have any notion at all of interface design and ergonomics. Similar and connected tasks cant be on the opposite side of the screen. On 1440x900, or any size, you must move the mouse like a dervish to get your stuff done the way it is now. Nevertheless I am hopeful this will improve. _________________ M.
