Application: Bobba Zelios
YOU MAY WANT TO USE 'pg dn' TO SCROLL DOWN THIS THREAD, AS THIS POST IS VERY BIG.

Bobba Zelios

- Why do you want to become a Viper?

I like the idea of an anti-piracy guild, also like a general sense of community and thought a(nother) UK member may benefit the guild, as i've seen people asking for VPR in the chat channel often. After looking for a guild for a little while, I considered PA but dismissed it as objective-less, then i found the VPR and joined Valkyr and Aurelius (sorry for the spelling) Sol on a patrol, learnt about the Vipers, and a couple of days later I've thought about it and am posting.

- What is your nation?

UIT

- What are your license levels?

License Levels: 8/5/6/7/4

Update 14Aug: 9/7/6/7/4 (6 days later).

- What are your faction standings?

Pfft, unfortunately I can't open VO at the same time and didn't think to jot it down so can't tell you the EXACT numbers, Respect with Serco and Itani, high Admire with UIT, Admire with Corvus, TPG are respect, majority of others are respect and 2 or 3 are neutral

- How long have you been playing VO?

I have been playing on VO as Bobba Zelios for two weeks. Played VO a while back but it's not really worth mentioning as have rusted so much.

- What is your level of experience and proficiency in regards to PvP combat?

PvP combat.. haven't had a huge deal of lately which is one of the reasons I'm joining, as it'll potentially give me more, however went on the patrol with Valkyr and Aurelius (again sorry for spelling) and took down there target Look No Hands as he was grieving, also have fought a few other players but not many success rate is extremely high for any newbies who's VO age is similar or alot less than 2 weeks however most experienced fighters such as Ardenus (think thats correct spelling) and others I usually don't manage to kill, however DO make a stand and have inflicted 50% damage of Ardenus for one, only 13 kills totalling on this account so far, however have a lust for PvP combat and enjoy taking on players beyond my skill level for development. Enjoy NW.

- How did you hear about us?

A patrol squad and channel 100.

- How often do you play, what times do you normally play, and what is your time zone?

GMT, at the moment an extraordinary amount (31 hours solid the other..err...days) but i'll put you under no illusions, that will not continue. Usually 4pm-11pm.

About Me (only things about me which are beneficial to the guild or members):

I HATE one-on-one PvP combat. So why am I joining VPR? Well because that statement is incorrect. What I mean to say is, I hate one-on-one combat, if that's all there is too it. For example the idea of endlessly jumping into Sedina B-8 to repeatedly compete in combat with people for no gain other than respect or rivalry does not appeal to me, although the use of it being a quick warm up to stop me becoming dusty in PvP works. But anyway, so I hate that. But I do love PvP if it feels like it MEANS something, it just feels so primitive a one-on-one with nothing really meaning anything, so basic and boring. Team-based PvP like the viper patrols or defending traders makes PvP MEAN something to me. Continually fighting the threat of pirates is an objective, and one with more purpose than one so rigid as to repetitively compete in one-on-one's in Sedina B-8.

Ok, number two thing about me: I'm probably quite talkative, communication is good. However interactive conversation should always be primary communication in my view, as things such as the forum posts, things that aren't "live" and instant can be mis-understood, and be hard to rectify. Also I'll give ideas and I'll question ideas, but not in a rude way, but in the same way I would expect to be questioned as it'd be beneficial and help our ideas grow. For example the first time I met Shlim we went on patrol, and we got off on the wrong foot, for instance because he'd said come and wait in Sedina B-8 wormhole, and I suggested that because at the moment we know Sedina B-8 to be clear, and the other wormhole out of Sedina is monitored, the OTHER side (Latos side I think) is perhaps a better strategic advantage, as pirates spawn 9K away from the WH and are easy to intercept and prepare for in B-8. That's the kind of idea I'd give, not saying I'm right, but I'd give it straight up, I'd say "hey what about...", and some people take offence to that, they misjudge it for being...unrespectful, or..not accepting commands, but there's a fine line I admit, but you will never hear me say "No.", you'll hear me say "Would it maybe be better too..." in which case your answer could be "No." which is fair enough. But "Would it maybe be better too..." is not "I'm not doing that, cause I've got a better idea that you didnt think of and I think it's way better". Not atall, and please don't make that mistake.

Number Three I like community, community is good. I like looking forward to seeing a VPR login, I like not-looking forward to logging into a greyspace station littered with pirates which are going to attack me after I launch 5 seconds after I've just logged in, in a weird way. Community is a dimension to the game which must be explored to get your full money's worth out of that subscription fee.

10th August Application Update:

Now have 30+ kills and a shiny new badge, Xang Xi faction decreased due to killing Ardenus in a NFZ. License levels also increased however can't remember all, combat is now 9.

10th August Battle Log:

Aha, I have to say it feels like I have been in a galactic war.

I can't remember the exact time, but I think roughly around 10pm GMT me, Shlimazel, A. Sol (forgotten full first name) and Surb (again can only remember his nickname, PA member i think) began a viper patrol.

We cleared out B8 and chased down many pirates throughout Sedina, flushing it temporary, we sure aren't the most skilled bunch of snakes but by working together we managed to take down our enemies and achieved what we wanted sooner or later.

Anyway our patrol soon turned into an organized defence network, with Me and Surb covering the Sedina wormholes while Sol and Shilmazel flushed the piracy inside. However things started going bad when new pirates began logging inside (a problem I didn't forsee, despite being blatently obvious). In the end it turned into an all out war at B-14 (i think, the Corvus station in Sedina anyway) that lasted for way over an hour.

The pirates homed at that station included Ardenus, FusionBurn, K'metreq, PieRat (<- barely worth calling a pirate) and someone else also joined in, and there may have been one other. Anyway we flew in there and it began a constant battle, both teams taking losses and re-spawning and coming back, it soon came to a match of endurance. Especially when the rats started using swarms so everyone decided it was rocket party time.

So the battle went on...both sides dying, respawning, dying, all for this one sector. The battle raged on for an hour atleast, Shilmazel had to leave and I also began to have doubts on the battle, as I had personally spent 1 million + so far on the battle (Sol claiming i'm a spend-thrift and he spent less than half) but anyway I was about to give up this battle when Serb donated me the money, and so I returned after almost leaving the sector.

The pirates were becoming more and more... creative, and started bringing in Serco proms and all sorts for the occasion, anyway the conclusion was the pirates eventually after over an hour, decided that enough was enough and one-by-one began to re-home elsewhere.

I just think it was amazing grit from the vipers, and even I (even though officially not a part of the vipers) had doubts, we pulled through and managed to protect the traders of the verse from harm for an hour or so.

Just thought those who fought with me today really deserved a mentioning, so that's A. Sol (first name missing) and Serb (nickname heh, i'm sure Shlimazel will know the full) and Shlimazel.

Also PieRat seriously annoyed me and can't fight, and then challenged me to a pvp of which i didn't turn up to within 2 minutes so quickly decided it was cancelled, on re-arranging this (only a few seconds after the minute or 2 that he decided i wasn't turning up...heh) he decided that he couldn't possibly fight me cause he was so busy...however minutes later he was still in the same system and so tailed him, to find him mining outside in a moth. Bloomin' busy...pfft. He's a wannabe-pirate who today demonstrated his alliegance, although not a threat to the majority of vipers, he could probably shoot down a moth. It'd obviously be down to the guilds decision of what to do with him.

Anyway, this log is finished

Edit: Later found the battle had continued to past midnight, and into the 10th August. So it was a VERY long battle, awarded me a PvP bade though. heh.

Forgotten The Date(11-13th) August:

Me and Shlimazzel practised a bit, both got to grips with each others skill and found we're pretty much even in skill level, and are good to fly together. When battling the battle usually goes either way (and often do, forming a somewhat regular patten of you win, I win, you win), and neither player survives with more than 10%.

Discovered Neut's aren't so bad and that I need help aiming with Flares, as I am now using an Xbox360 controller, and it's slightly more difficult without mouselook to predict anymore, although not an excuse it's something i need to work on.

14th August:

Met Strat properly for about 10-15mins. Managed to squeeze in 2 battles, the result:

My ship choice: Warthog.

His ship choice: Rev C Centurion.

Outcome of the battle:

Battle One: I lost this battle straight up, going in with neut's and flares. 100% health for Strat, 0% health for me. (0%:100%)

Battle Two: I lost this battle again, although lasted a fraction longer, went in with AGT and Jacks. Ended up inflicting 25% damage. (0%:75%)

Battle Notes: I never ONCE hit with a flare, which just backs up my previous log of NEEDING to practice firing the damn things. Think I just...lose concentration when using them, like I have to THINK about it too much, may just come to me with time. Also I have spent 6 hours of today travelling and have just arrived at my holiday destination and logged onto VO at midnight with the sound not working, so I am going to excuse myself a tiny bit aha, but I lost straight up.

15th August:

Still on holiday, signed on for a couple of hours at 11pm and stayed until about 1AM. Saw no VPR apart from Aurelius Sol (an applicant I believe). Dueled PieRat the outcome:

My ship of choice: Centaur with dual devastators and a gauss cannon.

Pierat's ship of choice: Vulture with dual neut blasters.

The result was that he lost (with I predicted, but you can never be too sure :)), I was reduced to 70% health. (70%:0%).

He's definitely getting better, and seems to definitely have some sort of friendship or connection with Ardenus.

16th August:

Nice day, went rat hunting with Niut and Strat =). I claimed myself two kills on "Fusion Burn" of which one (perhaps both, can't remember now) was a one-on-one starting at 100% =D. Woo. So significant improvement. Also got a kill on "K'metreq". I was killed by the pirates a total of twice. So killed 3 died 2. I'll have to live with that until my skill improves :). Anyway nice seeing them both, and am proud of my pirate kills, on players a lot more experienced that me.

Killed FusionBurn: 2.

FusionBurn Killed Me: 1.

Killed K'metreq: 1.

K'metreq killed me: 1.

All in all, a good day.

My ship of choice today: Centaur (Mk3) with dual AGT and flares.

17th August

Didn't come online today! (*gasps of horror). I'm travelling back from holiday tomorrow, and want to me well rested for the long six hour journey, and as such I wont be on tonight, and possibly tomorrow, but hopefully so. Looking forward to the mid-week Nation War as I missed the weekend one.

18th August:

75% of today was very good, the final 25% was not. Me, Niut, Phaserlight, Shlim and Nahin Lor took on K'metreq, Impdavid, Denji (PA member, fighting "to make it fair apparently), and a couple of other pirates I can't remember the name. First hour or so went great, at one point I killed K'metreq, Denjii and then Impdavid twice during one lifetime, lucky streak though. My kill count shot up, now approaching 60 I believe so it's all good. We dominated at the start, but towards the end it kind of fell to pieces and they communicated better and took us down. The battle cost me 1.3 million credits, of which I'll probably have to spend some time earning back tomorrow (bet I wont though, bet I'll join in some other VPR cause lol). Anyway having a great time, rally brining a whole new dimension to VO as I expected.

I spent most of the time in the taur from the 16th's August. However I spent a short time in a Hog 4 with AGT and neuts. Niut thought my flare aim wasn't too bad, think I had a quick bashup with him at one point so all in all a very good day, just a little bit disheartening in the end.

I logged on at 11pm, it's now 1:55am (technically the 19th but it's the 18th's log). So i'd estimate the battle lasted atleast 2hours, probably 2 and a half. Haha, again I managed to log on fight alot, spent alot, and then log off =). Becoming a habit here at VPR! Which I don't mind, I just don't want to be in the awful sad position of not being able to afford to participate, but I'm sure I'll find some time to grab some cash.

19th August:

Did a bit of mining today, did some escorts to gain back some cash, did some Orion faction raising, participated in NW. I've been online for about.... 8 hours, and not ONE other Viper has been seen, tut tut =D. Anyway, we (UIT) lost NW which we can see on the VO forum. Pirate activity was high tonight, soon I resorted to no-longer tackling the pirates head on as there was so many for just one person, and just monitored and advertised on Channel 4357 to help traders in need. Not so good day, not too many kills, and harassed by many rats!

But I'm ok! Maybe some more Vipers will be on tomorrow.

20th August:

Spent most the day scouting for ore in roids, toying with the idea of creating a database. Shlimazel came on but didn't stay for longer than ten minutes, I played in off-peak times, so didn't see much action today. However met by goals by monitoring 4357 and posting on it.

Current Objectives:

- Use the #4357 channel more, and take an active role in maintaining it and making people aware of it, with or without the VPR tag.

- Improve aim with Flares or "Unguided Missiles".

Things I would like to bring to the councils or members of authority's attention:

- The alt "PieRat" is a complete pilot-wannabe, who has fought alongside pirates in various VPR patrols various times, he's very unskilled and not any threat at the moment, however last time I saw he was flying round with Ardenus, meaning he's probably getting some sort of tutoring.. anyway my point is, maybe we can stop a potential rat here, and actually make it very clear to this "PieRat" that things really aren't going to be very fun for him if he chooses the life of a pirate.

- Can we have a "blacklist" or something, of various users which are KOS for some reason or another. Like I'll just use this for an example, but in some threads "Nahin Lor" comes across in various pilots loggs as someone who attacks traders and demands to fight with VPR, yet others say he does not bother VPR and we don't bother him. This is just an example. I just think perhaps there should be some sort of administrative level over this kind of thing, and be that final line of who's a threat, a thread will do. And where people can appeal to make people KOS for various reasons, under the councils approval.

Other notices:

- None at the moment, I'm now back from holiday so the notice has been removed.

If a senior member could just acknowledge they've seen the list I'd like to bring to authority's attention, I can take it off! Thanks.

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
And indeed we did Shilmazel, that 1+hour pirate battle sure was immense =P. They left in the end! Of course they came back later but we did manage to keep just about the entire pirate population occupied LOL =D.

It was a great (and tiring and testing) experience aha. And almost left at one point before you left, because it had cost me so much (the enemy started using swarms, so then it was like anything goes, so then the battle got very expensive), but Surb in the end (forgot his full name) donated me the cash, very kind.

Look forward to seeing you again.

Also looking forward to meeting someone who's classed as a "veteran" from vipers, who are a bit of a myth at the moment =D.

I look forward to flying with you as well Bobba. Do remember, though, that anyone wearing the VPR tag is a Viper, and demands the respect you would give one of us "veterans".

Good hunting!

I give every ally my full respect 'Atice' and treat no-one differently. You will receive neither less nor more respect then that given to my fellow (potential) comrades at VPR, however I think it will suffice with some to spare :)

Look forward to seeing you!

(P.S: If this is about Shlim, I cannot speak for him but I believe he simply interpreted me slightly..incorrectly to start with, however you will need to speak to talk to him for the full story).

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
Not to worry Bobba, I just felt a reminder to be prudent given the likelyhood that you will fly more often with our currently more-active recruits.

As for an issue with Shlimazel (to which I was not referring), I hope you two worked out the misinterpretation. It's always best to address an issue before it becomes a problem... which may explain our position on piracy :).

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
Hmm I have to say I was wondering about that, If I am very unlikely to be flying with Vets, how would the council approve my position.

Unless ofcourse they approve someone they have never met (especially combat). However I can't really imagine VPR doing that, as the guild comes across as a..careful guild. Not one that runs round like a headless chicken throwing members on the bandwagon.

"You do not truly know someone, until you fight them." <- heh guess the film and character.

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
I must caution you, Bobba, to parse my words more carefully. My acknowledgement of the "likelihood that you will fly more often with our... recruits" is far from the same as saying that you are "unlikely to be flying with vets".

Our recruitment process does take time, due, in part, to the carefulness you have noticed. The VPR tag is indeed not something we bestow lightly, which says all the more about you when you do earn it.

From what I have heard you are a very promising applicant. Keep up the good work.

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
Apologies Atice, though I did not make the assumption simply from your statement, but from other recruits in-game as well.

It was not a complaint or misunderstanding, simply an enquiry on how the council goes about the recruitment process, as I at the moment know very little, but will come to know more in time.

Yes I have flown extremely briefly with Niut but unfortunately I wasn't feeling very well, and signed off after under an hour.

Look forward to meeting you all.

(P.S: Strat, don't take personal offence at all, I was generally wondering whether the council do require an in-depth personal understanding of a potential recruit, or do they base it of fellow members interactions with that recruit etc etc. Ofcourse everyone has a life :). For instance I am currently on Holiday, so can only manage a few hours (or a couple of hours) in the evening.)

Hey Bobba, saw your comment on the use of flares. I sometimes have the same problem. There are some days when I never miss with a flare, and other days I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a nuclear bomb. Next time I see you in-game I'll show you a few pointers and tricks that I use to aim them.

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
Thanks for your support guys!

Though as my log mentions I'm on holiday and therefore, the time you will see me is quite limited.

Edit: Updated my log.

Also wondering what's my...erm..."rank".

I'm not sure of the "ranking system" here. So am I now classed as a "VPR Applicant"...and then If I'm right in thinking I'll be notified when I become a.."recruit", but at that point I will not have the VPR tag.. however I'm classed as a member of the guild. And then I don't know what it's called...but I grab my tags and...i'm a Viper. Guess that's what it's called maybe heh, just a Viper.

But anyway, if a member of high authority...or anyone can clear that up for me, I wont post it in my log as it probably wont get looked at with the sheer mass of text going on there.

Re: Application: Bobba Zelios
The rank system works approximately like this (feel free to clear this up, superiors)

Applicant (that's you)
Recruit (b'lonna is one)
Member-In-Training (that's me)
Member (cat is one)
Council (niut is one)
Leutenant (strat is both this and council)
Commander (m duncan is our mighty leader!!)

You get your tag at MiT. Once you're an Applicant for a while and the Council likes what they see, they make you a Recruit. Then from there you just work on your PVP and be present to represent VPR until they make you an MiT.
