Some common misconceptions...
I've edited the "Joining The Vipers" thread in order to clarify some things and to clear up some misconceptions about this guild. I am posting this thread to highlight the text that I added so that potential applicants and current members can read it. Here is the added text.

This guild has a clear focus, but members often participate in a variety of activities. Vipers can hunt hive, practice PvP combat, trade, mine, role play, and engage in various other activities that do not conflict with our basic rules or charter. Vipers do not need to spend every minute of their in-game time patrolling, escorting, and chasing pirates. Those are things that we enjoy doing and that is why we are in this guild. However, it is not our job. We offer our services freely when we are willing and available, but we are in no way obligated to do these things when we are otherwise occupied or when we do not want to. However, all Vipers are trained to do these things, and if you never want to do them, then this is not the guild for you.

You do not need to be a combat ace to be a Viper. This is a misconception. Pilots can be outstanding Vipers with even just a minimal level of combat proficiency. Any friendly pilots who believe in what we do and what we stand for have what it takes to wear our tag. Also, The Viper Guild is not just a group of players. It is a group of friends who enjoy socializing in-game and here on our forum. That sense of camaraderie is just as important as our common values and goals.

Re: Some common misconceptions...
As I said when we talked ingame, I think this is a great clarification. We don't have to spend every minute we are in the game helping other people. Heck, I can't help other people much unless I have levels and decent hardware. But even once I get all that, there'll still be days when I just want to do something else for a bit.

And a darn good thing one doesn't have to be a PVP ace to be in the guild, or I'd be in trouble! :)

Qut.

You and me both Qut ;)

Although when I see the rats I cannot help but throwing myself at them. Which results in AgY getting cheap kills.

What is the best response to his x-1 dual falre gauss thingy? Especially when you fly cheap crap as I do (vult III)

Axia positrons, and flight tactics to beat the autoaim of his gauss. I'll shoot gauss at you if you need the practice.

Well said, Lt. Strat

A good way to counter the flare joust is to use your ear and a railgun

If you listen closely, you can hear your opponent's turbo kick in as they prepare to boost a flare. That's the perfect time to place a rail shot in that potato-shaped target. Save your ammo. Fighting a flare valk with rails takes daring and adrenaline.

If rails aren't your thing then positrons are the next fastest, which means more range and more distance between you and your opponent's flares.

Remember to take some flares of your own. They make a nice shield.

Now this is why I love being part of the VPR family. :w00t: j

In response to Cat though, The vult 3 may be cheap, but it is not crap. It happens to be my preferred piracy rig when I actually happen to be out there doing 'my job' and not just being lazies.

As to pvp prowess, its just a matter of time, practice and experience. But even if your destined to be mediocre pilot like myself, you can still have a lot of fun. Especially when you watch the newbies you used to pwn start kicking your butt. ;)
