Application
Hi Vipers. This is my formal application to be one of the peacekeepers and protecters of trade. My name is Cat, short for Catherine. I started out as a Serco militant, found out that it was not for me, joined KAOS, found out that they had lied to me about the whole guild thing and left them. I wanted to be part of a mercenary guild, not a guild of moronic killers. This time I want to do something good for a change. I have an intense hatred for the guild named KAOS. Due to earlier "work" I have some enemies, most notably William Cutting. I hope I will be allowed to join the ranks, I have already started my war on KAOS and piracy in grey space. I am 6/6/4/6/, Serco 900+, UIT 300+ and Itani -230 and rising |

It was good flying with you yesterday, Cat. The Council will review your application. In the mean time, fly with as many Vipers as you can so we can get to know you better. I look forward to seeing you in-game again soon. |

I am now 8/7/6/8/4 and admired Orion. Pushing on +250 TPG as well. Fought some against peytros today (and died, was not a fair fight...) :S |

Re: Application
No such thing as a fair fight <edit> especially as a VPR or VPR recruit </edit>. Someone always has an advantage, whether its skill, ship, weapons, armor, starting health, numeric odds, etc.. The best you can hope for when you are outmatched is that you learn something new, or demonstrate that your skill has risen since the last. Also, pay close attention to players that frustrate you. You can learn even from the lowliest griefer. _________________ Hoist the Jolly Roger Maties! I see traders dead ahead... |

Re: Application
Ret does have a bit of a point. As a VPR, you have a target painted on your back, but that's the price we pay for sticking to a code and dedicating much of our lives to hunting down the scum in the universe. If you are looking for pvp training, I'm sure Strat, Niut or I can lend a hand. Just send us PM's and we'll arrange a time to meet in-game. |

Re: Application
when I mean not a fair fight, I mean him in a X-1 and me in a vult III with a gauss I and an empty barrel of flares. I charged him, he had it coming 8) I hereby raise the massive NEED A HAND flag (an inverted Jolly Roger) as I have died a lot today to Atlantis and Blood Thirsty... Fortunately I managed to kill Blood Thirsty as well. |

Re: Application
Well, it took me around 9 months before I got decent. Still a number of players I can't beat (ie. Strat) or beat consistently. VO has quite a learning curve for pvp. * Retractile politely turns the Jolly Roger around the correct way for Cat _________________ Hoist the Jolly Roger Maties! I see traders dead ahead... |

Re: Application
Instead of fondling my flag you should rather teach me to kill you. If you have time, I would like the training for as long as the money holds. Or point me at the right kind of weapon/ship for pirate hunting. Right now I have a Vult III with dual gauss III. |

Re: Application
* Retractile snickers at the imagery. Well, probably the best light ship would be the X1 iirc the vengence it was based off of. Strat is murder with any light and sunflares. He sucks with energy, but I personally suspect he only uses energy to guide his opponent into flare alignment or to help himself with aiming the flares. Guass is ok. You need to be a skilled close in pilot to use it though imo, because while it has great AA, the range of the AA's accuracy is low. I personally use either n3's or a n3 and an aap on a Rev C. Occasionally, I'll get daring and go straight aap. The problem with the Rev C is that its an energy hog. For hunting I use one of 3 ships. The X1, Vult 3 or Hog 2. The X1 is pricy, so I only use it to hunt, since the chances of me taking enough damage to die are minimal. Where the Vult 3 and hog 2 are throw away ships. Also, always run an escort when you travel. Even with all the ships I lose, I still turn a profit by running them, and you'll never need to worry about credits again. ;) Or, if you want to make some real money, just pop a trader or two and sell their cargoes. Unless they are willing to pay. Its always better if they pay. But more important than ship and weapons is skill, which comes from lots and lots of practice and thinking about what happened. Case in point, Mecha can pwn most players with fletchet cannons. Most players would be easy pickings if they used fletchets. _________________ Hoist the Jolly Roger Maties! Re: Application
Cat, Retractile is usually too busy trying to pick up girls to bother doing anything resembling teaching. (Note that the key word here is trying; he's just as bad at it as he is with everything else in life. See the Viper Talk forum for examples of how much he fails.) You're probably better off harassing Strat (if you prefer someone from within VPR) or Mecha if you need one on one practice. |

Re: Application
Hmm... I'm a bit confused as to what's going on here, but I can certainly give you combat training, Cat. We just seem to be missing each other in-game lately. Retractile, I certainly don't "suck" with energy. If I did, I wouldn't load it at all, but on my main setup I use energy for a specific function. Before you started playing, my main setup was an all-energy setup and I was quite successful with it. It's just not a smart loadout for a chase ship, so I brought the flares into the picture. Anyway, I'm pretty sure there have been a couple of times when I've run out of flares and had to kill you with energy, which is not as easy as you might think when you've got a massive flare launcher weighing you down. |

Re: Application
Heh. No offense meant Strat. Just stating my observation of your use of energy, which seems to be designed as I described above rather than inflicting significant damage. Esp since you seem to compensate the flare weight with the raven these days. Since I rarely outlast your flares, I don't get to see you energy prowess :P Sembei - Its all part of my master plan to be perceived as the lovable underdog. And for the record, the only girl I've persued is you. Which I might point out, your ongoing taunting suggests strongly that you want me coming after you. Just watch out that you don't protest yourself into something you can't evade..... ;) * Retractile takes a moment to point out that Sembei never answered the challenge made to her rejection. _________________ Hoist the Jolly Roger Maties! Re: Application
I'llk take the help any which way I can Strat. And I figured that if I kept him occupied with killing me/teaching me, he wouldn't be pirating in the meantime ;) I have flown with Niut mostly, but he had to afk it a lot unfortunately. I am learning, slowly but steadily. Sembei, thank you for the warning, I'll find a ten foot pole somewhere and make sure it remains between me and the pirate. Besides, it sounds like he is already affected badly by the love bug. And Retractile ( >.< ) thank you for the advice. It sounds like good and sincere advices and I shall follow them. Maybe I should learn flares... >:) |

Re: Application
:erm: So. ... You'll put in a good word for me then? Most important, take your time and enjoy the game. VPR has some powerful allies that tend to even things out when it starts getting dirty. Learn all the ships and weapons. Even if you don't use them yourself, you should have a pretty good idea of what they can do and how they perform. _________________ Hoist the Jolly Roger Maties! slowly learning. Had a very close fight with Fanty and Mingo (will someone teach me to close the distance to someone that attempts to keep that distance?). Helped Tohasandra Chi and Mecha Tourious (I think it is spelled..) by booming peytros. Died a lot again |

Re: Application
Nice on nearly beating F&M! That's one heck of a feat, as he is an exceptional fighter. He tends to use a Orion Rev C, so he has a faster combat speed than you do (70m/s vs 65m/s), so it is hard to close that distance. Practice helps, as well as the carefully placed (and very rare) turbo/short-burn. Also, try to keep distance yourself, baiting the enemy into having to come closer to take a shot (but do not fall into the trap of back-rolling). I have some time this weekend. We should arrange a time to do combat practice. Send me (or Strat or Niut) a PM and we'll work something out. |
