A salute to great sports
Just wanted to salute Vehement and Ishathis (Please forgive me if I got the name wrong, as I totally suck with names) for being such great sports last night in the face of overwhelming odds. I had a lot of fun errr ... negotiating with you both as part of the CLM pack.

I saw Lucky and Strat show up as I was leaving so I hope the fight became more favorable to you guys.

Your pal,
Retractile

Your allies basically capitulated at the mere sight of Strat. We only had to destroy them twice each to win the day. I can only assume it was the terrifying power of Strat and myself together, because no one has ever fled from Strat before I'm sure... *cough*

Heh. As soon as I showed up, the remaining rats more or less vanished. Apparently, they didn't want to be quite the "great sports" that The Vipers were in the face of overwhelming odds. Too bad you didn't stick around to keep 'em from wimping out. I've never seen you run from a fight. Be careful, Ret. Compared to your peers, you may earn a reputation for being... dare I say it... honorable. Maybe even brave? What will the rest of CLM think?

We appeared to have posted at the same time, Vehement. Your post wasn't there when I began writing. Looks like we pretty much said the same thing anyway, other than the part about rats not fleeing at the sight of my awesomeness.

Re: A salute to great sports
not really a pirate guild just an "evil" guild is how they classify themselves

Well, still, pirating is evil, and they're an evil guild, so they just might pirate. And besides, I don't see many "pirates" actually in mauds or revenants or centaurs going after cargo, it's more of them sitting around in B-8 looking for fights. Which is a shame, cause my ship is designed to hunt down medium --> large ships loaded out for piracy...

Yes Kira. They are a dying breed, but I have known a few. The mark of a true pirate is one who, when they send that hail demanding cash, actually demand an amount based upon what they're targeting. No point in charging 100k for a vulture, it can't possibly be worth that much, know what I mean?

... in other words, Vehement... NPC unrats.

... which, incidentally, have been extinct for over a year...

Not to start a disagreement, but it seems rather silly to have to create a specific hail for each ship type you want to pirate and then remember which button you have it binded too. Better just a flat rate for everyone. How do I know that XC is worth 50,000c or over 1,000,000c? How do I know if that person in the vult didn't just arrive in Latos from Metana (where he's homed) and isn't homed locally?

Besides. at this point, I'd just as soon kill them as get paid. Its generally not worth the aggravation of going through the whole dropping cargo or collecting credits bit.

Before you show your disdain for my perspective though, you'd better just remember that 'the game' of which you are a significant part has refined that in me. Honestly, discouraging people from paying when they are in a no win situation, or even a 50/50 situation where they 'might' get away because of the distance is a violation of the spirit of role play in my mind.

Yeah, maybe its just as easy to get blown up and go do something else for a while or to pick up where you got interrupted. But in my mind, I have to wonder how would people respond if the situation were real?

Enough rambling for now. I'm sure that the above is a very old and very tired argument on VO.
